The Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (LACNIC) is a non-profit organization responsible for the management and allocation of IPv4, IPv6 and Autonomous System Numbers (ASN) across Latin America and the Caribbean. Established in 2002, LACNIC serves one of the most dynamic and growing internet markets in the world.

LACNIC's region includes over 30 countries spanning from Mexico to Argentina and across the Caribbean islands. Like other Regional Internet Registries, LACNIC's available IPv4 address pool has been depleted, making the secondary transfer market essential for organizations that need additional IPv4 resources.

LACNIC maintains its own transfer policies and fee schedules that differ from those of ARIN, RIPE NCC and APNIC. Transfer fees and processing timelines are generally higher and longer in the LACNIC region compared to other RIRs.

Prefixx works with LACNIC to facilitate IPv4 transfers for buyers and sellers across Latin America and the Caribbean. Learn more about our process.

Step1 LACNIC membership setup illustration

LACNIC membership

To receive IPv4 address blocks through a LACNIC transfer, your organization must be a LACNIC member. Membership is open to entities operating within the LACNIC service region (Latin America and the Caribbean).

  • 1 Navigate to the LACNIC website and create your account at lacnic.net. You will need to provide organizational details and documentation for your entity.
  • 2 LACNIC has several membership categories based on the size of IP resources you hold or plan to acquire. The appropriate category will determine your annual membership fees.
  • 3 Your organization must be legally established within the LACNIC region. Be prepared to submit business registration documents, tax identification, and proof of operations within the service area.
Timeline: 2-4 Weeks - LACNIC membership applications involve a review process that can take longer than other RIRs
Step2 LACNIC transfer readiness illustration

Transfer readiness

LACNIC requires a non-refundable deposit of $200 USD before your transfer request will be reviewed. This deposit is applied toward the total transfer fee if the transfer is approved.

Unlike ARIN, LACNIC does not have a formal pre-approval process. However, you will need to justify your need for IPv4 address space within the LACNIC region. The registry will evaluate whether the requested block size aligns with your demonstrated requirements.

Prefixx guides clients through the documentation requirements and helps prepare the justification to ensure a smooth review process.

Timeline: 2-4 Weeks - Allow extra time for LACNIC's evaluation process, which can be more thorough than other registries

Finding the right block

Prefixx connects you with qualified sellers who hold LACNIC-registered IPv4 address blocks. All blocks we present go through our Tixx by Prefixx quality control process to verify ownership, reputation and transfer eligibility.

Once you are ready to proceed, make sure you have the following:

  • Your LACNIC member ID
  • Proof of the $200 non-refundable deposit payment
  • An executed purchase and/or transfer agreement
  • Access to an authorized representative of your organization
Timeline: 1-4 Weeks - As part of our process we outline buying criteria to speed up sourcing
Step4 LACNIC IPv4 transfer completion illustration

The LACNIC IPv4 transfer

Once terms are agreed and funds are secured in escrow, the formal transfer process begins. LACNIC transfer fees vary based on block size:

  • $ Blocks smaller than /19: $1,000 USD transfer fee
  • $ Blocks /19 and larger: $1,500 USD transfer fee
  • ! A $200 USD non-refundable deposit is required before LACNIC reviews the transfer request

LACNIC transfers typically take longer to complete than transfers at other RIRs. Both the buyer and seller must cooperate with LACNIC's review process, which includes verifying the legitimacy of the transaction and ensuring compliance with regional policies.

Once the transfer is approved and processed, receipt of your IPv4 block concludes the transaction and initiates the release of escrowed funds to the seller.

Timeline: 4-8 Weeks - LACNIC transfers generally take longer than ARIN or RIPE transfers due to additional review steps
